“His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of His feet.” (Nahum 1:3b NIV)
I snapped the picture to the left a few weeks ago on one of the rare days we have actually seen sunshine here in Indiana. I wish it did justice to the enormity of the clouds that day. But I’ll bet you’ve experienced it yourself before—that perfect setting where the sky is a bright azure blue and the clouds are so humongous and so close that you swear if you just stood on tiptoe you could touch them. There is a peacefulness that hangs in the air itself.
Lately though, we have seen A LOT of storm clouds in our part of the country. There have been times when the sky turned eerily black as night during the middle of the day, and the clouds took on an evil-looking presence crouching and waiting for just the right moment to strike.
In all of these times, I find great comfort in the realization that my God is so incredibly mighty and all-present and all-knowing that these massive forms above me are but dust-bunnies at the feet of the Father.
So when the storm clouds in my life threaten to overtake the peace in my heart, when the changes in the world around me steal my sense of security, when people who do not take the time to know me are cruel, I know that I can cling to the One and Only. I can rest securely in Him and in the words of that entire verse:
“The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.” (Nahum 1:3 NIV)
